Student T test

One Sample Student’s T test

Use: To compare a population mean inferred from a sample with a hypothetical population mean (derived from the literature or otherwise set by the investigator)

Examples: Is the average weight of the laptops being produced weigh the same as the five-pound sample?

Two Independent Sample Student T test

Use: Used to compare two independent population means inferred from two samples. (No correlation between corresponding values).

Examples: Is there a difference in individuals taking drug A verses individuals taking drug B?

Two Dependent Sample Student T test

Use: Used to compare two dependent populations inferred from two samples. (There is a correlation between corresponding values)

Examples: (Data always needs to be related) Is there a difference between the amount of time Seals look for predators at the beginning of a haul out compared to the end of a haul out.
